Is Red Light Therapy the Fountain of Youth?

I first found out about Red Light Therapy (RLT) more than a decade ago. I came across an article extolling the benefits, I did a bit of searching on Google and I was hooked. Finally, I thought, I had found the holy grail of health treatments.

It seems like magic, at the flip of a switch a dose of red light covers the whole body which can heal everything from acne to aching muscles, boosting the skin at the cellular level which genuinely makes you look younger. No chemicals, no skin damage, just a better overall look to your skin. In my research, I discovered that there were salons offering Red Light Therapy all over Germany, but RLT was virtually unheard of in the UK. That lead me to set up Bronzed Angel which we opened in the Summer of 2013.

Can you really look 10 years younger? It sounds good, but you are probably wondering if this is all too good to be true? When I thought about it my step-father used red light on his farm to help rear the Turkey chicks and I also discovered that NASA had accidentally discovered the healing powers of RLT on human skin during experiments in space whilst growing plants! So the idea that RLT could be beneficial wasn’t actually a new discovery at all. It just hadn’t been adapted for commercial use as an alternative to traditional sunbeds. Today, our clients can choose between pure Red Light and Hybrid Tanning which combines RLT with UV with the added benefit of a golden tan.

Here's how Red Light Therapy works. RLT works its wonders by delivering safe, concentrated natural light waves to your skin which is absorbed by your cells. It stimulates the production of collagen, elastin, and fibroblasts. This in turn improves something called ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) which is the source of energy for every cell in the body. If you are interested in the science you might want to read this short piece by L’Oreal Paris. RLT also increases blood circulation, providing more oxygen and nutrients to cells and tissues.

When your cells are exposed to red light wavelengths, many regenerative effects occur, leading to potential benefits such as younger-looking skin, better muscle recovery, and less scarring as well. Two wavelengths of red light, specifically 660 nanometers and 850 nanometers, provide the best biological response, according to scientists. The former, at 660 nanometers, absorbs faster into the skin, making it ideal for beauty treatments that target signs of aging, while the 850 nanometer wavelength penetrates deeper into your body to help regenerate muscles, reduce joint pain, and improve overall body health. At Bronzed Angel our Mon Amie Red Light Therapy beds (which are Hybrid tanning machines as they offer UV as an option) use these wavelengths specifically because of the health benefits these wavelengths offer. So, unfortunately, you can't just stick a red light bulb in a desk lamp and expect it to become a cellular time machine!

However, a monthly membership at Bronzed Angel allows you to lie back, relax in the warm glow of red light knowing that if you use the beds frequently your skin tone will improve dramatically. So confident are we that we also offer a full money-back guarantee if you don't look younger in 3 months.* We’ve been running this offer for the past 9 years and no one has yet asked for their money back!
